Environmental and Security Strategies: The Car Hire Industry being Pursued

There’s always a first time for everything, environment and security pursues is not exceptional. The question in today’s Cheap Rental Cars - reiVRE Hot Pulse is – "What as now changed in the car hire industry that is worth a full article?”

Environmental and Security Strategies Being Pursued In the Car Hire Industry

... it has often been regarded as an industry that is less than receptive of change, an industry that would prefer to carry on car hire operations as they have been carried out for generations. One thing has certainly changed in the car hire...

In terms of technology and technological development the car hire industry has always had a somewhat poor reputation. In the wider sense it has often been regarded as an industry that is less than receptive of change, an industry that would prefer to carry on car hire operations as they have been carried out for generations. One thing has certainly changed in the car hire industry in the last twenty years however, as increased competition has become readily apparent, a unique customer focus has had to have been developed by all the major players to ensure their survival.

Like many industries the car hire industry has had to cope with increasing calls by eco-lobbyists to go green. The effects of global warming are increasingly affecting our way of life and in the realm of car hire this is no different. As technologies are developed to reduce the impact that car hire companies are having upon the environment, these technologies are being offered to tweak our environmental conscience. This is in no way an industry-wide phenomenon but there are now enough companies employing eco strategies to regard it as a trend. As more and more customers demand services that are eco-friendly, it is understandable that certain companies are using eco strategies to entice custom and trade.

The most widespread form of eco-strategy has been the introduction of hybrid cars into car hire fleets. While this may look great to customers when purveying the company literature, many environmental commentators have criticised this type of policy as a gesture that only goes half way to tackling the problems of climate change. It is true that hybrid cars produce lower emissions than their regular counterparts but the feasibility of using fuel sources such as bio-fuel and hydrogen has still not been fully researched. A fact that environmental campaigners are acutely aware of; especially when considering bio-fuel, that uses swathes of land that could instead be used for the raising of crops.

There is also the argument that for car hire companies to truly become more eco-friendly it is essential that they work towards changing the way customers use their hire cars. While this may not be in their interests in terms of generated profits, it is still being introduced by some forward thinking companies. One way in which this is being done is by changing the way in which rates and tariffs are calculated. The major shift has been from hire on a daily basis to an hourly structure of charges. It is hoped that by doing this, the number of hire cars on the road at any one time can be reduced and subsequently the negative impact on both the environment and congestion will be lessened.

It is not however purely environmental changes that have been felt in the car hire industry in recent years. After many high profile cases where organised criminals had managed to steal large proportions of fleets, security has become a major concern in the industry. One of the methods that has been employed is the fitting of GPS trackers into many fleet vehicles. Acting like a black box on an aeroplane it is possible for companies to track the whereabouts of all their vehicles at any one time; especially useful after a theft. As well as these GPS devices, an increasingly common sight at car hire desks is a thumb print reader that records all of the customers thumb prints digitally. As with many spheres of life, biometric data is becoming an ever more fundamental part of the car rental process.

While new technologies may be initially resisted by those in the industry, it does not take a great deal of time for their benefits to be realised. The security measures will undoubtedly spread rapidly as they actively work towards protecting fleets. What might take longer is the introduction of eco-strategies; these policies will not bring immediate profits and hence will be resisted. The only way for a greener car hire industry to become apparent is to keep up the demand for eco-friendly options when we are at the rental desk.

Car Hire: What Is The Best Choice For Wedding?

There’s always a first time for everything, Choosing the Right Car Hire Company is not exceptional. The question in today’s Cheap Rental Cars - reiVRE Hot Pulse is – "Why use a car hire?"

An essential past of any wedding is to get the right car for arriving at and departing from the church, as well as the trip to the airport for the honeymoon. Combining elegance and style is the primary concern for any wedding planner, however in recent years increasing numbers of couples have opted for more original forms of transport on their special day.

In London the choices available for those wishing to hire a wedding car are almost limitless. Of course there are the usual suspects like Rolls Royce, Bentley and Jaguar that make up the majority of the wedding car market. These cars can be seen as the classic choice of wedding car for their large size and style, however with more weddings today abandoning tradition a large number of car rental companies have started hiring more unique choices of wedding car.

A great choice for a wedding car is a Morris Minor or VW Beetle; although planners may be put off by the size of the cars, their appeal and character is hard to dispute. The 'Herbie' like beetle is a must for a VW nut although getting in and out in a flowing wedding dress may not be the easiest of tasks. The Morris Minors on the other hand come in a variety of models and the convertible is ideal; offering style without being brash this choice of wedding car will surely suit those planning an original wedding.

An increasing number of couples have hired an American classic for their wedding day; this is a great alternative to the usual luxury cars available for hire while not compromising on size. A pink Cadillac is the perfect choice; complete with fins it brings a slice of 1950s America to your wedding. If pink is a little loud for a wedding car a 1959 Cadillac in white is an awesome choice for a wedding car.

The use of Hummer four by four's have increasingly been used by wedding car companies due to their comfort and large size; adorned in ribbons they can even look quite festive. An added bonus of using a Hummer is that the bride can step down from the car, making the transition from vehicle to church easier.

With such a huge worldwide following there is little wonder VW Camper Vans have become increasingly popular as wedding cars. This cult classic is held in high regard amongst its followers and for Camper Van fanatics there is no other choice for a wedding car. Once again using a VW Camper Van does not compromise on size, although speed is certainly reduced.

The wedding car market is becoming evermore flooded with vehicles from pop culture; a great example of this is the K.I.T.T. car from the eighties TV show 'Knight Rider.' Complete with flashing lights at the front this black Pontiac Trans Am will surely be hit for the groom, if not the bride.

Another popular car from culture that is available for hire as a wedding car is the Delorean from 'Back to the Future.' Although time travel is out of the question the 'gull wing' doors will ensure the groom fulfils a boyhood dream on his wedding day; after all it is not just about the bride.

Of course many will still go with the a more uniform wedding car for their special day, the elegance of a classic Rolls Royce or a 1930s black cab is something that cannot be doubted. As more couples abandon convention however the tradition of having a classic saloon for your wedding car will diminish. In the modern world the creative edge is always sought, the wide choice of wedding cars available for hire stands testament to this.

Whether it is the cute VW Beetle or the sporty Trans Am from a cult classic TV show there is now a host of cars that will surely fulfil any couple's transport requirements on their wedding day. Whether the groom will want to be seen leaving the church in a pink Cadillac however remains to be seen.

How to Choose the Right Car Hire Company

There’s always a first time for everything, Choosing the Right Car Hire Company is not exceptional. The question in today’s Cheap Rental Cars - reiVRE Hot Pulse is – "What are exactly the advantages of each one?"

At many popular car hire destinations in Spain like Alicante airport, Malaga or Mallorca you can book your rental car with both global and local car hire companies, but what are exactly the advantages of each one?

Many travellers prefer the peace of mind of booking with a reputable multinational like Avis, Hertz, Europcar or National in order to avoid unpleasant surprises when collecting the rental car. Funny enough most complaints we handle are usually related with cars rented from multinational companies and the most common issues received by our customer services department are questions about the insurance.

Normally rates for Spain from multinational companies include basic collision damage waiver and theft protection with an insurance excess, sometimes up to 1.500 euros, depending on the company. However, if you go through the booking process on the website of a multinational car hire company on many occasions you will find an optional and additional item called Super CDW (Super Collision Damage Waiver) which normally can be included by checking a box. With this optional item you can reduce or eliminate the insurance excess and your financial liability in case of an accident.

From our experience the rates from local car hire companies in Spain, many of them with a fleet of rental vehicles exceeding 15.000 cars do already include the Super Collision Damages Waiver, there is no insurance excess on the car hire.

If you book car hire in Malaga, Alicante or Mallorca with a multinational car rental agencies or any online car rental broker offering their services in Spain we strongly advise to check the insurance conditions, as the daily charge to cover the excess can be as much as 15,00 euros per day at the counter of multinational companies at Malaga airport, Palma de Mallorca or Alicante.

Other advantages of local car hire companies in Malaga and other popular tourist destinations in Spain are the much lower additional charges which apply for services like extra drivers, baby seats, airport deliveries or after hour car deliveries. Many of these additional services are free of charge or against a very low flat rate and you will end up paying a lot less.

Obviously there are also disadvantages. Due to their low-cost philosophy these companies need to optimize their fleet which requires a larger number or rentals and the chances are that you have to wait a bit longer to collect your rental car when you arrive at Malaga airport, especially on peak days, during the weekends or the holiday periods.

The petrol policy from local car hire companies occasionally differs from the one applied by multinationals. Based on the statistics of the mileage per rental agreement many local car hire suppliers consider that an average customer will spend at least one full tank of petrol during the rental period of the vehicle and customers are requested to pay for a full tank of petrol and return the car as empty as possible. Especially at popular car hire destinations like Malaga, Alicante, Granada, Madrid, Mallorca, Almeria, Murcia, Valencia, Barcelona and Gerona this may be the case. We recommend our customers to estimate their mileage and compare which option is the most economical one.

Considerations For Car Hire Abroad

There’s always a first time for everything, Getting Cheap Rental Cars is not exceptional. The question in today’s Cheap Rental Cars - reiVRE Hot Pulse is – "How to take advantage of Today's Best Car Rental?"

When you consider the option of car rental there are many things to look into, particularly if you are going to be travelling out of your normal area.

You must familiarise yourself with all your responsibilities towards the hire firm and be sure of their responsibilities towards you. A thorough check of the car before leaving the car hire agencies is essential to safeguard any claims they may try to make later on.

However, there is one thing that many people do not check and that is the driving laws of the county or country they will be travelling through. They assume that if they follow the standard laws of the road, and they are all careful drivers of course, then they will be ok.

This is not necessarily so as laws vary and many, even the antiquated ones, are still very much enforceable.

Many of the laws wouldn't cross most people's mind but you can never have too much knowledge. Not many drivers would consider driving blindfolded in Alabama, just as well as it is illegal. If you were driving near a place that sold cold drinks and food after 9pm in Arkansas and honked the horn of your hired car, you could very well be arrested.

When you use car hire to drive through California, be careful to never leave your vehicle unattended, as no vehicle without a driver is permitted to travel at speeds exceeding 60 mph. And it's always useful to know that if you are driving through San Francisco and your car windshield becomes dirty, it is illegal to wipe any part of your car with used underwear.

That is, of course, if you have a windshield, because Luxembourg law does not insist you have a windshield but does insist you have windshield wipers.

If you intend to spit out of the window in Georgia, make sure you do it from a truck and not from a bus or car as this will get you a fine.

Some road traffic laws make good common sense that you hope nobody needs telling such as the law in Ohio that makes it illegal to travel on the roof of a taxi cab, Tennessee law that states you must not drive whilst asleep or in Denmark where you should check for small children beneath your car before you set off.

If you do decide on car hire through America and you happen to pass through Texas, steer well clear of all alcohol. It is illegal to drive within an arms length of alcohol - even that which may be in somebody else's bloodstream.

One traffic law I wish was in place when my children were babies was the one set in Iowa where the ice cream man and his truck are banned.

Before cars where as popular as they are now, animals were used for transport. However, in Washington it is illegal to ride an ugly horse but who defines ugly? And if you choose an elephant instead of a car in Florida and tie it to a parking meter, you must still feed the meter as if it were a car.

Massachusetts law bans gorilla's from travelling in the back seat of a car - makes you wonder how many times they have had to enforce this law. It must have been at least once for them to come up with that law in the first place.

If you chose car hire in Oklahoma it pays to know that the molestation of a vehicle is illegal.

Let's hope you never find out if they still enforce this law but it is always wise to check on the laws of the country you are travelling to.

Your Comprehensive Cheap Rental Cars Resource !

There’s always a first time for everything, Getting Cheap Rental Cars is not exceptional. The question in today’s Cheap Rental Cars - reiVRE Hot Pulse is – "What is a guide to car hire in the UK?"

Car hire is the term that is used to describe the renting of a vehicle from a company. It usually takes place over short periods of time from a couple hours to a few weeks.

Most car rental companies have comprehensive websites that allow the potential clients to view, reserve and pay for their vehicle hire online

Typically car hire UK companies are based in airports or busy city areas and they often deal largely with the tourist or business markets. There is also a big market in vehicles that would ordinarily be out of the purchase price range of the hirer.

A large proportion of the British car hire market is made up of vehicles that are hired whilst the hirer's car is being repaired. There are also a vast number trucks and vans rented out to people that want to move house.

Each company that offers car hire in the UK provide the service with different conditions. Some companies allow the hirer to pick up and drop off the vehicle they hire at different places in the UK. This makes it possible to take a vehicle on a one-way journey and return it near to your destination. Many companies include insurance and roadside assistance as part of the price they quote which makes it easy to manage your budget. Some deals cost more depending on the number of miles the vehicle is driven but an increasing number of companies offer agreements with unlimited mileage.

The history of car hire is said to trace back to the introduction of the first economical version of Ford's Model T. A Nebraskan man named Joe Saunders is said to have been the first to hire out a vehicle when he lent out his Model T to a travelling salesman that wanted to take a girl out on a date.

Walter L Jacobs opened a car rental business in Chicago in 1918. By 1923 the business was generating $1 million a year and was ultimately bought by John Hertz. Prohibition facilitated a growth in the industry. This was positive for the profitability of the industry however hire vehicles became associated with bootleggers, prostitutes and bank robbers. The reputation has improved greatly since then.

There are two types of car hire company.

Companies such as Alamo and Europcar own the vehicles in their fleet. The other type of company operates like a broker and has access to other companies' fleets of vehicle. Many car rental companies impose a strict minimum age bracket on their vehicles. Often this means drivers have to be over 25 to rent a hire car.

Many companies also require payment via a credit card. This makes it easier for them to trace the person in event of theft or if the hire company finds faults with the vehicle after the hirer has returned it.
